St. Jura Roman Catholic Church. In 1646, a council of Rusyn Orthodox priests met to affect changes in the church. The 63 participants facilitated the union of the Orthodox church with the Catholic Church, thus recognizing the jurisdictional authority of the pope in Rome. This action became known as the Union of Uzhhorod.
